Patek Philippe "Glitch in the Matrix": 20 Discontinued References Reversed
TL;DR / Quick Verdict
On February 1, 2026, Patek Philippe implemented its new pricing adjustment but also tagged 20 references as "discontinued" on its official website. By February 2, these statuses were reversed, and the models were restored to the current collection. While officially a "glitch," could this represent those models on the 2026 phase-out list ahead of this year's Watches & Wonders showcase in Geneva?
A Preview for Watches & Wonders 2026?
Sunday, February 1st, surprised a few people who were paying close attention to Patek Philippe. Alongside the 2026 price adjustments we previously forecasted, 20 iconic references were tagged with the "discontinued" label and their respective web pages classified as “Page Not Found.”. However, by Monday morning, the ‘discontinued’ label was removed, product pages of these references were back to normal and they were listed as still part of the collection, albeit with the price adjustments.
Were these references labelled ‘discontinued’ by mistake, or was there a glitch in the horological matrix and we got an early insight into those pieces that will be discontinued by the time Watches & Wonder comes around?
Historically, Patek Philippe refreshes its catalog in early February. This "mistake/leak" may provide a roadmap of the references making way for new refinements this year.
Here are the 20 references that were listed as “discontinued” on 1st February:
Full List: The “Discontinued” Patek Philippe References (2026)
Grand Complications & Chronographs
Ref. 6102R-001 & 6102P-001 (Celestial): We were very surprised to see these astronomical complications marked as discontinued. Often seen on the wrists of celebrities such as Jay-Z, Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg, these are a grail for many. If this does fall away from the collection, we expect demand for these models to increase further
Ref. 5236P-001 & 5236P-010 (In-Line Perpetual Calendar): Despite the "Salmon" dial (-010) being a recent debut, both platinum variants were highlighted as exiting the collection.
Ref. 5204G-001 (Split-Seconds Perpetual Chronograph): We were surprised by this. A Patek Reference that exudes high-craftsmanship. Regarded as somewhat of a sleeper model whose value will likely be reconsidered if it does become discontinued..
Ref. 5520RG-001 (Travel Time Alarm): If the list is accurate, this is perhaps a strategic removal from the collection as Patek refines its travel complication offerings.
Featuring the intricate Caliber AL 30-660 S C FUS, the 5520RG is the only Patek Philippe chiming watch with a water-resistant case.
Powered by the self-winding Caliber 31-260 PS QL, the 5236P-001 platinum variant appeared on the 2026 discontinuation list alongside its salmon-dial sibling.
The Calatrava & Dress Watch Evolution
Ref. 5396R-011 (Annual Calendar): A longtime collector staple. This may be being being retired in favor of more modern elements found in Refs. 5205 and 5235R.
Ref. 5227G-010 & 5227R-001: Classic officer-case Calatravas was marked as bidding farewell. The Reference 5226 appears to position itself as a leader in this series .
Ref. 5088/100P-001 (Calatrava): Intricate design but which divided crowds, the Ref. 5088P was also marked as discontinued. If true, we anticipate this will likely be replaced with more modern designs being added to this collection.
A collector staple for years, the 5396R-011 appeared to be making way for newer annual calendar interpretations.
Alongside its rose gold sibling, the black-dial 5227G was flagged for discontinuation during the surprise catalog refresh.
This intricately jeweled and engraved platinum Calatrava, housing the self-winding Caliber 240, was spotted among the 2026 retirees.
Ladies’ Models & Specialized Complications
Ref. 7200R-001: The ultra-thin "Masterpiece of Minimalism" was marked as officially off the catalog. Beautiful, elegant and sophisticated which always received positive feedback from our clients, this will be missed if true.
Ref. 4910/1201R-010 (Twenty~4): A quartz reference which could potentially be phased out as Patek prioritizes mechanical strategies.
Ref. 7130R-014 (World Time): If accurate, this could be removed as the brand periodically refreshes world time aesthetics.
Other Retirements: 4997/200R & G, 7140R & G, 4962/200R-010, 4948G-010, and 7041R-001.
Known as a "Masterpiece of Minimalism," the ultra-thin 7200R was officially tagged for removal during the February 1st leak.
The trendy olive green 7130R World Time, set with 62 diamonds, was a surprising addition to the 2026 "ghost" list.
What happens to prices when pieces get discontinued?
Many believe that once a piece is discontinued, the value automatically increases. We disagree as not all watches are created equal so one has to be prudent. The majority of References that briefly appeared on the discontinued list, were already trading below their retail prices in the secondary market. However, there are 3 References we believe may see demand increase over the medium and long-term if this discontinuation list turns out to be accurate.:
1. Ref. 61012R and 6102P (Sky-Moon Celestial)
Patek Philippe artistry and its haute horlogerie leadership is displayed in the Celestial range. First launched in 2015, the 6102R and 6102P are heavyweights on the wrist and in any collection. These iconic pieces have always remained in high demand and low in circulation.
SRK Projection: If these are discontinued this year, we expect these sought-after grail pieces to see increased demand and collectibility.
A pinnacle of astronomical watchmaking, the platinum Celestial displays the night sky of the northern hemisphere, driven by the self-winding Caliber 240 LU CL C. Book a viewing for the 6201P-001.
Often spotted on the wrists of prominent collectors, the rose gold 6102R Celestial remains one of the most visually poetic grand complications in the catalog.
2. Ref. 5236P-010 "Salmon Dial"
Should this In-Line Perpetual Calendar be leaving the Patek collection, it will do so with an extremely short production run.
SRK Projection: The discontinuation and limited production will likely trigger collectors to reconsider or accelerate their decision to add the 5236P to the safe.
The patented in-line perpetual calendar 5236P-010 reinterprets retro aesthetics with its salmon dial, briefly seen exiting the collection despite its recent debut.
3. Ref. 5204G-001 "Split-Seconds"
With only a handful of watchmakers distinguished enough to master split-second mechanisms, this reference is a masterpiece of technical scarcity.
Projection: It is recognized as one of the "greats" and is poised for long-term appreciation.
This high-craftsmanship reference utilizes the manually wound Caliber CHR 29-535 PS Q, appearing as a "sleeper" model potentially departing the catalog. Book a viewing for the 5204G-001
FAQ
Q: Which Patek watches were labelled as discontinued in 2026?
As of Feb 1, 2026, 20 references including the 5236P (In-Line Perpetual), 5204G (Split-Seconds), and 5396R (Annual Calendar) were removed from the catalog. These were subsequently reversed and are now back on the official Patek Philippe website.
Q: Can I still buy a Ref. 5236P-010 and the other references at retail?
Officially,, Yes. With the reversal of the discontinuation labels last night, these models are still in the collection and may be showcased at the ADs where available. Of course, purchasing at retail will be subject to the usual expressions of interest and availability at the AD. However, if this list was an indication of the models Patek Philippe will discontinue later this year, there may well be increased interest at ADs and in the secondary market.
Q: Is the discontinuation of the Patek Philippe references true?
This is where time will tell. We recall the leak of the Patek Philippe Cubitus before its official launch which had the community divided as to whether this was an actual model or a fake!. In this case, it may be a mistake on a day when the official website was being updated to reflect its various price adjustments. What we are confident in stating is that there will certainly be discontinuation of models this year so if you are on the fence with respect to a model you’ve admired and thought about for some time, now may be the time to act.
